The end of an era
Jack Carter Pool was designed as a replacement for an aging and obsolete community pool that leaked water at an alarming rate. The idea of replacing a beloved but outdated neighborhood pool with a new aquatic complex was initially met with resistance from surrounding residents. Through a series of public meetings, residents came to understand the scope of the new pool and its place within the existing park setting and became the project’s strongest advocates.

Amenities for all ages
This family-focused aquatic center was designed to accommodate more than 1,000 patrons and features a wide variety of amenities. Specific areas of the facility focused on different age groups. A FlowRider and climbing wall with diving well were designed to serve the teenage user. The tot pool targets the toddler crowd, and the rest of the park, including a lazy river and double-rider tube slide, was designed to serve children ages 5 to 12 and their families.

Creating a natural environment
Located within a 75-acre park, the pool is bordered on two sides by a heavily wooded creek corridor. To minimize the visual impact of this pool while complementing the natural setting, a color scheme of greens, tans and browns was chosen. In a nod to sustainability, the on-site storm drainage is filtered with vegetation before it reaches the adjacent creek, and a linkage trail connects the facility to the local trail network, encouraging patrons to ride their bikes.
