Lawsuit: Man Got Legionnaires’ Disease from Hot Tub

Jason Scott Headshot

A Long Island man is claiming that a hot tub at an LA Fitness location is to blame for his contracting Legionnaires’ disease.

In the lawsuit, Earl Stewart, a member at the club, says he was hospitalized with an aggressive form of pneumonia after visiting the spa area of the LA Fitness branch in Garden City Park, according to the New York Post. The suit seeks $2.5 million in damages.

The spa facility at the club was shut down indefinitely in late December, after tests conducted by the Nassau County Department of Health found it was indeed contaminated with legionella bacteria.
