An Auditorium Designed for a Football Team
TIMEX Performance Center
A simple auditorium is anything but simple when designed for a pro football team. During team meetings in the TIMEX Performance Center, the New York Giants offense sits in the front half of the room, the seats outfitted with tablet arms, while the defensive players sit in the rear until they are dismissed to their meeting room down the hall to the right. The aisle separating these areas is used for the setup of television and still cameras when press conferences are held there.
The room gets progressively wider and taller for the purposes of projection and acoustics, and Philadelphia-based EwingCole designed each resulting "cove" with a variety of illumination sources for the room's different purposes. One such application is a light shelf tucked behind each of the room sections' black frames that projects indirect light onto the surrounding gray fabric wall panels and white ceiling tiles. This ambient light helps accommodate note-takers and gives definition to each of the room's portals, an aesthetic that is mimicked around the viewing screen at the front of the space.
