Big 12 Schools to Split Record $348M in Revenues

IRVING, Texas — Big 12 schools are splitting a record $348 million in revenue for the 2016-17 academic year.

Each of the 10 schools will get $34.8 million, though about $6 million of Baylor's portion is being withheld pending verification of changes at the school in the aftermath of a campus sexual assault scandal.

This is the 11th consecutive year of revenue increases for the Big 12. The latest increase is about $4.4 million per school over last year.

David Boren, Oklahoma's president and outgoing chairman of the Big 12 board of directors, said Friday at the end of the spring meetings that those numbers show that the league is in a very strong position.

Bengals sign controversial RB Joe Mixon

CINCINNATI — Second-round draft pick Joe Mixon has signed with the Cincinnati Bengals. The Oklahoma running back who was suspended for his freshman season after he punched a woman, breaking bones in her face, signed Friday. Bengals owner Mike Brown acknowledged the risk of taking Mixon in a letter last month to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Brown said Mixon "did a terrible thing" when he hit Amelia Molitor in 2014, adding it is "unacceptable for a man to strike a woman."

Minnesota turns over ticket scandal to FBI

MINNEAPOLIS — The University of Minnesota has turned over athletic ticket sales transaction records to the FBI for investigation of bookkeeping that triggered the dismissal of a manager in the department earlier this year.

Brent Holck, who was the assistant athletic director for sales and service, was fired in February for violating university policy. He was let go almost immediately after an internal audit discovered discrepancies dating back at least six years in the transaction records. Athletic department spokesman Jake Ricker confirmed the details on Friday after they were first reported by WCCO-TV.

BASEBALL

Hawkeyes cling to slim lead on Houston

Through 6.5 innings, the Iowa Hawkeyes baseball team clung to a 4-3 lead against Houston in the first round of the NCAA tournament, Friday, at Cougar Field in Houston. The game concluded after the Telegraph Herald's press time.

The fourth-seeded Hawkeyes took a 1-0 lead through the second inning, which held until the Cougars tied it at 2-apiece in the fourth. Iowa then posted two more runs in the top of the fifth inning. Houston then cut that deficit in half with a run in the bottom half.

At the plate, right fielder Robert Neustrom led Iowa, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Ryan Erickson started the game for the Hawkeyes, going five innings and allowing all three runs, two earned.

Dufner sets record to lead at Memorial

DUBLIN, Ohio — Jason Dufner wants to put together more than just a few good rounds at the Memorial this week. The first two rounds put him in the record book.

Dufner holed out from the 18th fairway and then added three more birdies on the front nine for another 7-under 65. That set the 36-hole record at Muirfield village and gave him a six-shot lead over Ricki Fowler among the early starters Friday.

Dufner was at 14-under 130, one better than the 36-hole score of Scott Hoch in 1987 and Fowler in 2010. Neither won the tournament.

Fowler, who was 3 over after his opening four holes of the tournament, had a 66 and was at 8-under 136.

Video shows Tiger taking breath tests

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Video from a Florida jail shows a barefoot and handcuffed Tiger Woods performing two breath tests after being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

In video released Friday by the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, Woods uses the slurred speech and unsteadiness described by Jupiter Police who arrested him early Monday.

Woods mumbles responses to an officer's questions, describing his hair as "mostly brown and fading."

Woods asks what the case is about and repeatedly needs instructions to blow into the breath machine. The officer and breath-test technician laugh when Woods says he "can't unlock my two bracelets."

While seated and handcuffed, Wood agrees to a urine test but asks, "How am I going to hold it?"

BASKETBALL

Oakley going to trial over February incident

NEW YORK — Former New York Knicks player Charles Oakley has chosen to go to trial in August on charges he struck a security guard at Madison Square Garden.

Oakley appeared briefly before a Manhattan judge on Friday. He rejected a conditional dismissal that would have left him with a clean record after six months of good behavior.

Oakley became a fan favorite when he played for the Knicks from 1988 to 1998. But he's had a falling out with the organization in recent years.

AUTO RACING

Busch wins the pole at Dover Speedway

DOVER, Del. — Kyle Busch led a strong qualifying effort for Toyota, turning a lap of 158.954 mph to win the pole at Dover International Speedway.

Led by Busch, Toyota had the first four drivers Friday in the qualifying session. Martin Truex Jr. was second, followed by Daniel Suarez and Matt Kenseth. Busch, Suarez and Kenseth are all winless this season for Joe Gibbs Racing.

Erik Jones was seventh and JGR's Denny Hamlin was 10th to give Toyota six of the top 10.

Busch has gone 28 straight races without a win and was second last week in the Coca-Cola 600.

Austin Dillon, the Charlotte winner Sunday night for his first Cup victory, will start ninth.

Eagles-themed car won't ride at Pocono

DOVER, Del. — Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s ride in a Philadelphia Eagles car has been benched. Earnhardt was scheduled to race next week at Pocono Raceway in the No. 88 Chevrolet wrapped in team colors and with the Eagles logo.

Hendrick Motorsports and the Eagles say the sponsorship is off because the NFL doesn't allow team designs accompanying the promotion or presentation of another sport. Telegraph Herald wire services
