Four interconnected buildings built between 1951 and 1995 were renovated and reorganized to better provide space for physical education, athletics, recreation, and training. The new addition includes a 50-meter competition pool, diving tank, athletic lockers and offices, multi-purpose meeting space and balcony seating for 1,000.
The main level of the addition contains a new entry and lobby with hall of fame displays leading to the performance gymnasium, the existing 200-meter field house and the new natatorium.
The combination of glass, metal panels and limestone complements the existing building and surrounding campus. The footprint of the addition was designed to minimize the impact on site, and the project earned LEED Gold.

The 5,000-seat Alaska Airlines Center is the showpiece of the University of Alaska Anchorage campus, built on a prominent intersection near the largest medical center in the state. The signature rounded walls and roof are covered in metal sheet, creating a distinctive ovoid shape that is unlike any building on campus. The shape allows snow to shed from the roof – a critical feature in this Alaskan climate.
The arena is able to host NCAA events, train sports teams and provide an athletic outlet to the surrounding community. It also supports the University’s specialized athletic needs, including skiing and ice hockey.

The expanded and renovated Student Recreation Center includes a gymnasium with a suspended track, multi-activity courts with retractable spectator bleachers, cardio/weight equipment areas, racquetball courts, three multipurpose rooms and locker rooms. An outdoor leisure pool with a large deck was added, and the indoor 8-lane, 25-yard pool was renovated along with a wet classroom, storage and aquatic locker rooms.
UNCW offers numerous opportunities for outdoor leisure, so the expansion includes the new Discovery Outdoors Center with reception, a resource library, meeting rooms, a catering kitchen and almost 2,500 SF of oversized storage for equipment. Rounding out the facility is the Fitness for Life Center, the 28-foot climbing wall with over 1900 SF of climbing surface.

The Student Life Center was designed to be a transformative project on the University of Utah campus, and the resulting building is playful and uplifting – a direct reflection of the quality of life at the University.
The design is inspired by desert surroundings, with red and orange hues and angular surfaces as a nod to the rock formations.
The recreation center features a natatorium with 50M lap pool, leisure pool and whirlpool. The 17,000 SF two-level fitness center contains cardio equipment, weight machines and free weights. Other spaces include a three-court gym with a suspended track, two-court auxiliary gym, a 10-foot tall bouldering wall, 54-foot tall climbing wall, racquetball courts and four group fitness studios.
