Founded in Toledo, Ohio in 1973, with an additional office in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the firm is led by six Principals who are hands-on in day to day project management. The Collaborative’s services, ranging from feasibility studies and programming; design to construction observation, have been recognized with more than 70 national, state and local design awards.
Throughout the past twenty-five years, a majority of The Collaborative’s work has been in higher education, with a portfolio that includes more than 550 major college and university projects on 70+ campuses across the country. Bowling Green, OH
In order to keep up with student demands, BGSU renovated its 1970’s Student Recreation Center. The design explores the most effective layout for the Wellness Center, offices, weight equipment, pro shop and climbing wall. Working within the existing space, the renovated plan has helped increase student engagement by 25%.

Following a feasibility study Gannon University upgraded the 1980s building to accommodate a new 80-yard indoor synthetic turf field, as well as, cardio, multi-purpose rooms, free weights, food service area, lounges and meeting rooms. Spaces for socialization encourage students to hang out before and after workouts, supporting a mind-body balance.

The Collaborative is working with Muskegon Community College to design 60,000 SF addition and renovation to their existing Health and Wellness Center. The facility will include a renovated competition court with new bleachers, 2-court multi-purpose gymnasium with elevated jogging track, expanded cardio and strength training areas, fitness lab, physical education classrooms, athletics office suite, athletic training suite, physical education offices, athletics and recreation locker rooms, and lobby/snack bar. When completed, this building will not only serve as a place of wellness and recreation, but will also become a new activity hub of the MCC campus and broader community.

Notre Dame, IN
The Collaborative and Saint Mary’s College have teamed to develop a 105,000 SF new and renovated athletics and fitness center to include an upgraded performance gym, 3court multipurpose field house with suspended running track, fitness studios, expanded, cardio and strength training areas, golf room, athletic coaches suite, health and counseling center, athletics and general use locker facilities, game day lobbies and cafe, locker facilities, and other support spaces.
