Thousands of dollars in equipment and funds were lost when burglars broke into the Saticoy Little League's storage units, authorities said.

Chris Corbett, league president, said $8,600 in cash and property were stolen. Thieves also took $22,500 in personal checks after breaking a door to a safe there, he said.

Corbett said the thefts took place late Sunday or early Monday.

He said the league was trying to get the banks to cancel $8,250 in stop-payment fees for the stolen checks.

"We're a nonprofit, and we're trying to work with the banks on this," Corbett said.

Another board member, Roy Morris, said burglars broke into the league's location at the Fritz Huntsinger Youth Sports Complex, 1198 S. Saticoy Ave.

The burglars drilled through the locks in the park's snack bar, which held the league's cash registers, along with iPads used to process credit cards, Morris said. The thieves also broke into a nearby shed and stole equipment as well as the contents of a safe.

Morris said this was not the first time the league had been burglarized, mentioning a smaller robbery in 2016 as well as the theft of the pitching mounds two weeks earlier over Easter weekend.

The league has about 260 players on 21 teams. Also, 125 people volunteer with the league, according to Morris.
