FSU QB Dismissed After Video of Bar Battery Surfaces

In a short statement released by Florida State University, Seminoles football coach Jimbo Fisher announced that freshman quarterback De'Andre Johnson was dismissed from the team following the release of video footage by the state's attorney office showing Johnson punching a woman in the face at a Tallahassee bar.

Security cameras in the bar show video of Johnson trying to push past the woman who was waiting to order at the bar. The two got into a confrontation after the woman apparently cut in front of him to order. Witnesses say the woman raised her arms towards Johnson and he then grabbed her and punched her in the face. The footage can be viewed below, but be aware that it might be unsettling.

The incident report says the woman suffered bruising near her left eye, swelling of the left cheek and upper lip, and a small cut near the bridge of her nose.

Johnson was charged with misdemeanor battery on June 24 and surrendered to police on June 30. He was released from jail on a $500 bond.

State attorney Willie Megs decided to charge Johnson after seeing video of the incident. Meggs told ESPN that the woman still had a black eye when he met with her last week.

Johnson had enrolled early at FSU in January and was expected to compete for the backup quarterback position.
