Copper Thieves Turn Out the Lights at Sports Complex

Over the weekend, a Tulsa, Okla., sports complex was robbed of roughly 200 feet of copper wire, damaging the transformer and turning out the lights, making it difficult for the complex to accommodate the 130 youth soccer teams that use its facilities.

According to KTUL, three soccer fields at Tulsa’s All Star Sports Complex have had their lights turned out by the theft, making them unusable by night.

Manager Jeff Higgins told KTUL that he estimated the copper would be worth a few hundred dollars on the street, but repairs at the complex are expected to cost thousands.

Work is already underway to repair the facility and turn the lights back on, but in the meantime teams will have to take turns on the complex’s remaining fields.

It’s the second time in recent months that the facility was hit by this kind of theft. The complex is reportedly planning to install security cameras to prevent a third incident.
