Gym Member Dies After Attack with Steel Bar

A member of a San Francisco Bally Total Fitness was arrested on Thursday for repeatedly hitting — and subsequently killing — another member with a steel bar.

Kenneth Osaka, a plumber, reportedly attacked the victim around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.

After repeatedly hitting the victim in the head with a steel bar usually used for tricep dips, Osaka fled the scene.

The victim, whose name has yet to be released, died Thursday at San Francisco General Hospital.

A maintenance worker had seen the victim talking with a woman shortly before the murder, which front-desk worker Feliped Mendes presumed to be the cause of the attack.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Bally Total Fitness employees say Osaka was prone to jealousy.

"This came out of nowhere. I've never seen anything like this happen at the gym," Mendes said. "At first, I thought something fell on him, that he hurt himself. But then someone was telling me that he got hit in the back of the head."

Osako is being held without bail at a San Mateo County Jail.
