I believe the response to this post is dead. I am currently a college football player at a small private university and I believe the coaches are the ones who decide on the hotel. I think they pay close attention to the cost of the hotel as they do have a given budget for the year they must follow. As said in the earlier response, I think the schools AD then approves it.

Although my title and job has now changed I was a tennis coach at a University. Speaking from a small private university the coaches of the individual teams had the money and booked the hotels and this was cleared with the Athletic Director. So I believe a partnership should be set up with the schools in mind through the Athletic Director so he/she can inform all travelling teams that yours in the partnered hotel with the University

Leigh Griffiths, Marketing and Events Coordinator
ISPAL,

Hello, thanks in advance if someone can respond to my question. I just took over the marketing for a hotel in Portland that has two universities nearby. They want to offer discounts and go after the group business of competing teams, but it's a vertical they have never pursued before. My question is, who at a university typically makes travel decisions and books the hotel rooms? The athletic director of the specific sport? Someone higher up or in a different department? Thank you for your time!

Kelly Edwards, Marketing manager
, TX
