Does anyone know how much it roughly costs to expand a recreation facility? I am trying to put together information to present to our endowment and would like to get some estimates per square foot. I am looking to add on to our building and create an expanded fitness center as well as adding and remodeling our current locker rooms. Thanks for any input.

The answer to your question: how much does it cost to expand an exercise facility (locker rooms, etc.) depends on several factors, with a major one being geographic location, as construction prices vary in different regions of the country. I was involved as project architect with a 15,000 sq. ft. expansion to the Monterey Sports Center in Monterey, CA where the cost was around $200 / square foot. However, I would think that in Montana the prices would be less expensive. Wood frame construction is, of course, less expensive than concrete or steel structures. I would recommend you retain an architectural firm as a consultant, even at an early stage of project planning - these experts can help you control cost and will save you money and you will have a better facility as well.
