We offer headphones for member's use. We launder the foam ear pieces and use spray disinfectantant on the actual headphones. Is there a better way to do this, or a product other than Lysol or Clorox spray which is gentler on the sinuses?

Unfortunately we stopped lending out headphones due to the difficulty sanitizing them. If you think about it, headphone ear pieces are sponges and members would come back returning the headphones with the foam soaked with sweat. Due to the fact that viruses like H1N1 can be spread through contact with bodily fluid (sweat is not known to transmit viruses easily, but they have not ruled out transmission via sweat either) it was easier to give up our lending program by educating our members that it is better to bring their own. We also found that the few people who did not mind sharing were the only ones who regularly borrowed our loaner headsets. They were also the ones who would return them soaked with sweat and hand them to our staff. Disgusting.
