Hello All, I have recently been promoted to the employee wellness coordinator at my facility and we offer great activites focused on the dimensions of wellness, but mostly have been based on the physical dimension. We have a great fitness center and pool on two campuses with state of the art equipment. We offer free personal training, free exercise classes, a walking club, and we just finished our second Biggest Loser contest. Participation in our fitness facilities has increased, but I feel that it could be better. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you

My company manages a small corporate fitness center. We have found that planning a different "event" each quarter really helps to improve usage. Much like the Walking Club and Biggest Loser events you mentioned, having something different all the time can help introduce new employees to the wellness program and keep motivation high for current users. Try offering something around a nutritional component or something pool related, or get even more creative (we did a healthy desserts vs. unhealthy desserts contest one year). If you always have something going on--people will want to be a part of it.

That is great information and we usually try to run an event every month and they will vary according to the dimensions of wellness, but I have not done anything for nutrition yet. Thanks for the suggestions. We also have a intranet site where employees can go on the site and find information about employee wellness and fitness. I will be speaking to the IT department today about upgrading the site with videos, blogs, and articles pertaining to wellness. edited by Andrew on 6/22/2011
