University of Texas at Austin — UFCU Disch-Falk Field Renovation

Austin, Texas

Year in Showcase: 2009

Project Description

With a new concourse nearly three times wider than the original, the renovated UFCU Disch-Falk Field (built in 1975) also debuted with 19 suites. The main concourse ties all public seating areas together, and a new player development area is located under the existing and expanded concourse and seating areas to maximize efficiency.

Although located a short distance from UT, the stadium’s exterior design reflects a natural extension of the main campus. The renovation created an aesthetic that utilizes a glass and brick facade, similar to that used in the renovation of the school’s revered Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.

The stadium’s main entry features a glass-enclosed atrium that has become its signature, offering breathtaking views of the facility’s plaza and downtown Austin. Inside the atrium, an open stair leads to the new press box/suite level. The shape of the plaza itself was determined in part by efforts to save as many oak trees as possible on the site.
