Project Description
The Waverly Community Wellness Center was designed to support the membership needs of the college’s approximately 2,000 students, faculty and staff, as well as the approximately 2,000 members of the surrounding community.
The center houses a performance gymnasium with telescoping bleacher seating for more than 1,400 spectators, and 18,604 square feet of recreational space includes strength training and cardio fitness equipment, a wrestling room, group exercise rooms, two racquetball courts, a climbing wall, a 200-meter-long field house and an auxiliary gymnasium. The natatorium offers a leisure pool, a whirlpool, a sauna and a wet classroom. Several sets of locker rooms serve numerous user groups.
The health and wellness component of the center includes a massage therapy room, fitness assessment and testing labs, physicians’ and administrative offices and a central nurses’ station. An athletic training room is designed for rehabilitation, hydrotherapy, examinations, taping and treatment. Public spaces include lounges, a childcare center, meeting rooms, a juice bar and a lobby/reception area.
The exterior of the building draws from the design of the Saemann Student Center. While consistent with the German-style architecture found on campus, the exterior design also distinctly ties the facility to the surrounding community.
