Project Description
The renovation of Lowville Academy and Central School's athletic complex represented a substantial component of the school's Bicentennial Project. Four tennis courts were relocated to an alternate area of the campus to accommodate new athletic fields. Adjacent to the tennis courts, a new basketball court with a color-coated playing surface and outdoor play area provide space for additional outdoor school recreational activities, as well as community use.
A major overhaul of the existing baseball and soccer fields was a key element of the redesign. Usage of the area had been restricted to physical education and minimal game play due to poor drainage. New synthetic turf fields improve safety and playability, and feature an underground stormwater management system. All fields meet the standards set forth by the National Federation of State High School Associations.
The overall transformation of the athletic facility and surrounding areas included improvements to and additions of various other features. The primary section of bleachers installed along the multipurpose field offers seating for 1,050 and is positioned for baseball and softball games. The new main bleacher system is rear-loading with accessibility at the top. A series of stairways built into the retaining walls were constructed to allow for spectator and community access to the field at the lower level.
