In a statement published by FOX 8 Cleveland and Cleveland.com, Northeast Ohio College Preparatory School said in part: “We strive to assure that our athletic program is as successful as our academic model. On Thursday (February 18), we took steps that would move our athletic program in a new direction. While we cannot discuss any personnel matters, we felt it was necessary to embark upon a different path regarding our athletic department.”
The school, which is only five years old, denied Cleveland.com’s interview request with Shullick on Friday.
The Lady Knights finished the season at 1-12, USA Today reported. This was only the third season for the girls basketball team. Most of the eight players on the roster are freshmen.
“I figured people would be upset about the negative publicity, but I had no idea it would cost him his job,” Nadia Cuevas, the lone senior on the Lady Knights team, told FOX 8 Cleveland.
