Marion Olivarez, a freshman football player at Rains ISD in Emory, Texas, died after collapsing in a non-contact football practice, according to the Tyler Morning Telegraph.

Olivarez was working through activities on Monday morning when he collapsed. He was airlifted via CareFlight to a Greenville, Texas, hospital, where he later died.

ā€œThe loss of any student wounds us all deeply,ā€ Rains ISD superintendent John Rouse said in a release. ā€œWe know that the community joins Rains in conveying our deepest sorrow and sincere condolences to the Olivarez family and friends.ā€

Rouse said that the district would make grief counselors available to students at the high school in the wake of the news.

Medical examiners will determine whether Olivarez had any pre-existing health conditions that contributed to his death.
