Frederick, MD -- On April 2, 2014, a shooting spree occurred at several locations on the Fort Hood military base near Killeen, Texas. Four people, including the gunman, were killed, while sixteen additional people were injured.
As a grandmother and mother of a family stationed at Fort Hood, Laura Grandner wanted to do something to help all of the military families whose lives were changed that day. And, as the General Manager of Pyramide USA, the manufacturer of the AquaClimb Poolside Climbing Walls, Grandner thought of one of the best ways possible to bring a sense of joy, resilience and determination to the families at the base. “I really wanted to do something that would support the families at the base and to thank them for all that they do for our country,” explains Grandner. "That’s why I suggested that our company donate an AquaClimb wall."
AquaClimb walls create a safe, poolside adventure that is fun for kids and adults alike. But, AquaClimb is much more than that. It helps people focus on strategy, build confidence and get fit. Grandner thought it was a perfect gift for the base and her instincts were proven correct. After months of working to get approvals, the AquaClimb wall is up at Fort Hood and is being enjoyed by the families at the base.
"We hope that other companies such as ours take note of our actions and find a way to reach out and support their local bases and military families for all they do for us," Grandner says. AquaClimb wants to see many other businesses getting involved in thanking our military personnel in any way possible, whether it’s through donations, services or recognition. "The sacrifice and dedication of American military service men and women and their families should be rewarded and recognized," she says.
