June 3, 2014 (Quincy, MA) – Good Sports, a national nonprofit  that provides sports equipment to disadvantaged youth, announced today that it has been selected to Social Impact Exchange’s S&I 100, an index of top American nonprofits creating meaningful social impact.

The S&I 100 is the first broad index of U.S.-based nonprofits that recognizes the results of top performing organizations. The index covers nonprofits focusing on pressing issues including education, health, youth and poverty. It is a valuable resource for potential donors looking to support organizations solving problems and addressing causes they care about.

“We are honored to be acknowledged by the Social Impact Exchange.” said Good Sports CEO Melissa Harper. “We believe being included in this elite group of high performing, scaling nonprofits will help us connect with donors who want to improve the health and well-being of disadvantaged kids through sports and fitness.”

Good Sports was selected by Social Impact Exchange for its positive impact in ensuring that every child, regardless of circumstance, can have a healthy, active lifestyle that incorporates sports and fitness.

This is particularly important as youth programs across the U.S. have experienced budget cuts, shifting costs to families. These higher fees can exclude disadvantaged children from participating in sports and recreational activities.

Since its founding in 2003, Good Sports has distributed $10 million worth of athletic equipment to 1,400 programs, reaching more than  870,000 children in need, a number it plans to triple over the next decade.

The index may help Good Sports reach that goal, as it is an effective tool for nonprofits to promote their work and find additional capital to reach more donors and make an even bigger impact.

The index is one component of Social Impact Exchange, which brings together funders to build a marketplace dedicated to providing capital to the most effective nonprofits in America. This in itself is unique, as there has historically been no easy way for donors, researchers, and others to combine knowledge and resources to tackle big social problems.
