Barbara Tulipane, CAE, president and CEO of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) issued the following statement in response to President Trump’s “Energy Independence” executive order:

“NRPA is deeply concerned by the executive action taken by President Trump as it relates to the protection of our environment and the preservation of our public lands. Doing away with key environmental regulations and policies that address the negative impacts of climate change puts entire communities at-risk and threatens the future of our planet. NRPA is also worried these actions could result in the loss of open space, which an overwhelming majority of Americans are opposed to.

NRPA is committed to protecting the environment from the adverse effects of climate change, along with preserving access to open space — especially for future generations. We will continue to work with the Environmental Protection Agency and lawmakers to find solutions to these issues and others. Ensuring everyone has access to clean air and clean water is also a priority.”
