Poma Joins Team in Attracting Sporting Events to The Greater Richmond Area

RICHMOND, VA - (October 24, 2016) – Richmond Region Tourism is pleased to welcome John Collins (J.C.) Poma to the role of Sports Development Manager. Poma will focus on attracting sports events to the Richmond Region. Poma comes to Richmond Region Tourism from The Doorways (formally the Hospital Hospitality House of Richmond), where he served as Community Outreach Manager.

In the role of Sports Development Manager, Poma will cultivate key national and regional relationships with sports-related entities and promote the Richmond Region as a premier sports destination.

Sports events continue to be a large economic driver in the Richmond Region. So far in 2016, the Richmond Region has hosted synchronized figure skating, field hockey, fencing, lacrosse, football, taekwondo, and baseball events. Still to come this year are softball, golf, soccer, and NASCAR events.

“I’m thrilled to join Richmond Region Tourism and community partners in working to bring new sports events to the area,” said Poma. “As a lifelong resident, it’s exciting to help move the region forward and build upon the success of recent sports events held in the Richmond Region.”

“J.C. has a unique combination of hospitality industry experience and experience in the sports world that will serve him well in the role of Sports Development Manager,” said Kristin McGrath, Richmond Region Tourism Vice President of Sales and Services.

Poma’s background includes stints at TEAM Coalition as their Event Manager, and as the Sales Manager at Richmond’s Arena Racing USA. Poma earned his B.A. in Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia (UVA), and his master’s degree from Georgetown University in Professional Studies in Sports Management with a concentration in Marketing & Sales. At UVA, Poma played on the Cavalier football and baseball teams.
