Sports Turf Managers Association Eclipses 200 Members Attaining Status as Certified Sports Field Managers

LAWRENCE, Kan. ( Feb 10, 2016)  – Sports Turf Managers Association (STMA) – the professional organization for 2,600 men and women who manage sports fields worldwide – announces it has eclipsed 200 members attaining status as Certified Sports Field Managers (CSFM).

The highest industry certification, six professionals were notified recently they had successfully passed following an extensive examination at the 2016 STMA Conference & Exhibition in San Diego, Calif. last month.

Recognizing the importance of fostering and improving professionalism within the industry, STMA began offering this unique program in 2000 to provide a higher level of education to its members.

Currently, affiliates from 37 U.S. states hold CSFM status, including Jeffrey Salmond, newly elected STMA President and Director of Athletic Field Management for the University of Oklahoma.

“The CSFM course was designed to challenge our member's knowledge of managing sports fields and draw upon all aspects of education and industry experience," says Kim Heck, CEO of STMA. “Those who employ a CSFM benefit by having an individual with dedication to field safety, effective facility management and a commitment to excellence.”

To attain the professional designation, turf managers must demonstrate competency in the following areas: agronomics, pest management, administration and sport specific safety requirements. Exams are proctored on a rolling basis and at the annual STMA Conference & Exhibition. The 2017 event will be held in Orlando, Fla. Jan. 24-27.
