Brady’s Suspension Overturned, Available for Week One

Jason Scott Headshot

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has had his four-game suspension over the “Deflategate” controversy overturned by a U.S. district judge.

The ruling means Brady will be available to play in his team’s season opener.

U.S. District Judge Richard Berman announced the ruling Thursday, following failed settlement talks between the NFL and its players’ union, which represented Brady.

The judge came out in Brady’s favor, forcefully maligning the NFL for the way it handled the case.

After last season’s AFC championship game, when officials discovered that Brady was using underinflated footballs, scandal erupted. After an NFL investigation, Brady was suspended for four games.

Updating:

The NFL has announced it will appeal the ruling.

Commissioner Roger Gooddell has released a statement.
