Suspended Cal State Fullerton baseball coach Rick Vanderhook was reinstated Friday after a lengthy investigation into improper and unprofessional conduct, the school announced.

He will be back in the dugout when the Titans travel to UC Irvine this Friday.

School officials took "appropriate corrective action" but did not elaborate in a statement released early Friday night.

"The university took the allegations against Coach Vanderhook seriously and conducted a thorough review," Athletic Director Jim Donovan said in the statement. "He has received appropriate counsel regarding his conduct, and has been asked to again apologize to his team."

Two people connected to the team who did not want their names used said Vanderhook was secretly recorded lashing out at the team before it traveled to UC Santa Barbara for a Big West Conference series April 11 and it was turned into the athletic department.

After the three-game series, Vanderhook called his team "soft" in an interview with ESPN.comand said there wasn't any accountability.

The outspoken coach was placed on paid administrative leave a week later.

Vanderhook was not available for comment Friday, but acknowledged in the school's statement that "players and coaches alike are accountable for their actions on and off the field. I regret my behavior in this instance, and its impact on the program and on the university.

"I look forward to returning to my work with the team and remain committed to Titan baseball."
