A 70-year-old man was found deceased in the sauna of an LA Fitness in Greenridge by an employee of the gym just minutes after opening the facility Thursday morning.

According to the Staten Island Live, investigators believe the man entered the gym during business hours Wednesday night and remained there overnight.

The medical examiner is in the process of determining the cause of death.

The fatality was reported at 5:07 a.m. at 3231 Richmond Ave., according to a spokesman for the NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Public Information.

LA Fitness remained closed in the wake of the death Thursday.

While a sign posted to the glass doors Thursday afternoon read “gym is closed until tomorrow,” a steady stream of cars could be seen slowly driving by the building checking to see if it was open.

The death in State Island follows a similar pattern to one that occurred back in February at a Gold's Gym in Jackson, Tenn., where a 70-year-old female was found deceased almost five hours after she entered the sauna.
