Vanguard Key Clubs Announces National Brand Licensing
Source: Vanguard Key Clubs

Hampton Falls, New Hampshire – October1 7, 2011: Vanguard Key Clubs (formerly Vision Fitness Centers) has nationally branded and is announcing an opportunity for individuals to now license their own independent 24-Hour Vanguard Key Club.

19 years ago, CEO, Craig Annis, started Vanguard Key Clubs as Vision Fitness Centers and has grown to five locations in 3 states, becoming the first 24-hour key club fitness centers in the Seacoast areas of Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. Originally opened as a typical staffed facility, Craig decided to eliminate the financial and other burdens associated with maintaining staff and offering limited hours of operation and converted to the Key Club concept. This move allowed members complete access to all of their fully equipped facilities that range from 7-10,000 square feet, 365 days a year. Almost all the “work” of the business is done online conveniently from any computer so the overhead remains low and hassle free.

Vanguard Key Clubs is now offering National Territories for individuals who want start their own low maintenance facility and to current gym owners looking for a way to lower their expenses and frustrations by converting their existing locations. With a focus on home office support, Craig is very excited to see the brand grow and watch other business owners succeed in an industry that often times does not have the licensees’ best interests at heart. For more information or to interact with the owner and current members you can find Vanguard Key Clubs on Facebook, Twitter, and their website, www.vanguardkeyclubs.com.

Sasaki Expands National Sports Design Studio
Source: Sasaki Associates

Watertown, MA (October 2011) – Sasaki Associates has acquired Concord, Massachusetts-based planning and design firm Sgarzi Associates. Founded in 2003 by Chris Sgarzi, Sgarzi Associates has developed a strong reputation for their programming, planning, and design of sports, recreation, and student life facilities throughout the Northeast. Sgarzi’s expertise and existing client relationships will further enhance Sasaki’s nationally-recognized sports design practice. He will serve as a principal at Sasaki and will work with firm leaders in both its Boston and San Francisco offices.

Sasaki has also added Stephen Sefton to the sports design studio as Senior Associate. Stephen joins the firm most recently from Ellerbe Becket / AECOM where he served as a senior sports designer in their San Francisco office. He brings to the Sasaki team over 16 years of dedicated experience in the design of sports facilities, including a focus in large-scale spectator buildings such as stadia and arenas.

The addition of Sgarzi and Sefton demonstrates Sasaki’s commitment to the institutional sports market. Sports Studio Principal Bill Massey believes they will help the firm continue to build its reputation as a national leader in sports design. “Chris and Stephen each bring an impressive amount of knowledge and expertise in the programming, planning, and design of collegiate sports facilities,” says Massey. “They will both be tremendous resources to our sports practice.”

The merger with Sasaki offers Sgarzi Associates’ clients access to a greater depth of resources and a wide range of collaborative, interdisciplinary services—although they will still experience the same commitment to service, innovation, and excellence in design to which they are accustomed. “I enjoy getting to know my clients and learning about their unique campus cultures and traditions,” says Sgarzi. “Helping them achieve and exceed their aspirations for their built environment is very rewarding. As part of Sasaki, I can offer them the benefits of comprehensive services and a truly collaborative approach to institutional sports planning and design.”

The acquisition also signifies a homecoming for Sgarzi. Prior to founding his own firm, Sgarzi was a senior associate and associate director of Sasaki’s sports design studio. While Sasaki and its sports practice have progressed considerably in the interim decade, the firm’s dedication to collaboration and delivering context-specific solutions to their client’s unique problems has remained constant.

A selected list of the studio’s current and recent projects include a new field house at Middlebury College, the expansion and renovation of the Sally Blair Ames Sports Complex at Stonehill College, a new athletic center and student life facility at the College of the Holy Cross, the Harold Alfond Athletics Complex at the University of New England, a study for a track and lacrosse facility at the University of Michigan, a new Student Recreation Facility at Arizona State University in Tempe, and the Welcome Center and Ice Arena at Plymouth State University in New Hampshire.

Source: BCI Burke

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (October 10, 2011) – A state-of-the-art playground recently installed in the City of Strongsville, OH, is fully operational and getting maximum use.  The City of Strongsville was the lucky winner of a playground contest held earlier this year by BCI Burke, commercial playground manufacturer with corporate headquarters in Fond du Lac, WI.

“Anyone I have talked to is ecstatic with the addition of the playground,” said Bryan Bogre, Strongsville Director of Parks, Recreation and Senior Services. “It is great to see something like this play area making people so happy,” he added.

“The playground has received much praise through our city council and our Mayor, and has been the topic of conversation on the council floor multiple times recently focusing on how great it is to finally have a playground in the Strongsville Youth Sports Park for our kids,” Bogre said.

Thousands of entries registered for the contest announced at the start of 2011, with only one honored person getting the exciting winning call.  The playground is from Burke’s new Voltage™ line, which combines the durability and flexibility of a 3 ½” O.D. post system with the advanced design of both the exclusive KoreKonnect® direct-bolt clamp system and EZKonnect® self-leveling deck system.  Other monthly prize winners in the Voltage playground contest received VISA gift cards and Apple iPods and will continue to be selected each month through December 31, 2011.

“We are always energized when we hear how thrilled our customers—both kids and adults--are with a new playground,” said Tim Ahern, BCI Burke CEO/owner.

“The partnership with Snider & Associates, our Burke Rep in Ohio, made this project seamless and successful,” Ahern said.

Snider and Associates, with service in Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania and Michigan, has been providing top quality park, athletic and commercial playground equipment to the school, early education, parks and recreation industry since the 80's.  Additional information can be found at www.cvsnider.com.
