Tiger Stadium Plaza Renovation - Louisiana State University

Baton Rouge, LA
Construction Cost: $6.5 million
Area / Square Feet: 110,000 for Phases 1 & 2
Occupancy Date: August 2013

When athletic director Joe Alleva arrived at LSU, he was struck by the deteriorated conditions of iconic Tiger Stadium and the grounds around it. The stadium facade had exposed reinforcing bars, windows were deteriorated, plazas were uneven and contained a collection of concrete patches. A master plan for preservation and improvements to the historic structure on its west, north and south sides was executed in three phases.

The work included the creation of piers and entrance features of appropriate scale to become new landmarks around the stadium; incorporation of plaques and kiosks to celebrate LSU Tiger football and individual successes; and new plazas, ticket gates and sliding gates for crowd control. The enhancements create an environment that boosts Tiger spirit, creates new fan traditions, and incorporates elements such as fan photo opportunities.

The project also included adding signage to the iconic stadium. New internally illuminated 10-foot-tall “Tiger Stadium” letters were added to the area under upper bowl seating and can be seen from miles away. The LSU logo was added in locations prone to being in the background of photos, helping to reinforce name recognition via social media.
