Dove Waterpark Renovation and Addition

Grapevine, TX
Construction Cost: $2.7 million
Area / Square Feet: 28,520
Occupancy Date: May 2013

The six lane, L-shaped swimming pool with diving and a small children’s pool that originally opened in Dove Park in 1971 no longer met the needs of the growing community of Grapevine. The $2.7 million renovation rivals neighboring pools with an expanded swimming area featuring zero-depth entry, a play structure, a water tunnel and geysers, as well as an activity pool with floatable play features, a water walk, a climbing wall, a drop slide and a run-out slide. In addition, the pool has plenty of shade and lounge opportunities for guests, including underwater bench seating and a wet deck lounge with chairs.

The pool building was stripped down to bare walls, and the entire roof was removed. Family change rooms and toilets serving the dry-play park were added to the building and existing toilets were modernized. The existing outdoor eating area was captured in the remodeled building as the new concessions area, and office and ticketing areas were reconfigured to maximize efficiencies and give lifeguards more space.

A new barn-shaped green metal roof structure allows for natural ventilation through the public portion of the building and continues the vernacular of Grapevine’s recently completed Oak Grove Park. Stucco finish and rock wainscot and pilasters were added to existing CMU walls, as were window openings. When open, the hopper-style windows allow natural airflow and light into the restrooms, while the frosted glass offers privacy.
