The new student wellness center at the University of North Florida — a replacement for the 9,700-square-foot Dottie Dorion Fitness Center — features administration and academic spaces and group studio and locker facilities on the first floor, with the second floor consisting primarily of exercise areas and small administration and support areas. The running track is elevated on the third floor. The next phase will expand the building to the north with a three-court gymnasium, a running track expansion and space for physical education programs.

The primary point of entry to the LEED Gold-certified facility sits at the eastern edge of the building, with access control accommodated at a check-in desk. Throughout three stories of recreation and academic space, the interior architecture enhances the ability for users to visually experience program areas, while creating many social areas where users can see and be seen by others.

Extensive amounts of metal panel and glass, along with some brick, harmonize with the existing campus vocabulary, while the larger expanses of glass showcase the activity within. An expanded metal-mesh sunscreen provides shading over the larger

glass areas.
