Located in a suburban residential area of Brampton, Ont., Chinguacousy Park is a local and regional destination with numerous activities throughout. The park redevelopment project added a new chalet/clubhouse for the ski hill, an outdoor volleyball complex, a boat pavilion, a skateboard park and BMX trails. It also renovated and expanded the tennis and curling club.

The goal was to create a welcoming community hub capable of sustaining yearlong recreational activity, and to transform the park into a beautiful sequence of indoor and outdoor spaces. The chalet and tennis and curling facilities — the latter an adaptive reuse of an existing curling rink — have revitalized the core commercial aspects of the park and enhanced the interior program areas. The boat pavilion has added a new program to an underserved area of the park and supports the playground and picnic area.

Each building has a series of terraces and shaded deck areas overlooking the park activities, reinforcing the indoor-outdoor programming relationship. Sustainable features include the introduction of daylighting in all buildings, deep building overhangs for sunlight control and the use of interior and exterior recyclable materials.
