Ben Hill Griffin Stadium West Concourse Renovation, University of Florida

Gainesville, FL
Construction Cost: $4.7 million
Area / Square Feet: 43,320
Occupancy Date: July 2012

Ben Hill Griffin Stadium is a fantastic and unique attraction, open on non-gamedays and attracting more than 1.2 million visitors per year.

The visitor’s experience outside the stadium and inside its seating bowl was consistent with the positive image the University Athletic Association desires. However, the west, east and south concourses on both the main and upper levels of the stadium were very utilitarian, conveying a much different feeling of user unfriendliness. The overriding goal of the project was to improve stadium functionality and image for both gameday and non-gameday use, including updating finishes and lighting in the concourses, providing a decorative floor finish, and providing wall graphics and banners. Reconfiguring and relocating concessions, as well as renovating restrooms, all contributed to bringing these spaces in line with the character of the remainder of the stadium and the University of Florida campus image overall.

The project has been well-received by fans and visitors. Concessions sales have increased, and the graphics throughout the concourses are used as backdrops for fan photos, graduation photos, and for reliving the great memories of Gator football.
