Pavilion Aquatic Center Renovation and Addition, Elk Grove Park District

Elk Grove, IL
Area / Square Feet: 23,220
Occupancy Date: May 2014

A hub of activity for residents of Elk Grove Village, the Jack A. Claes Pavilion Community Center, which houses the Pavilion Aquatic Center, was in need of a major makeover. Designed as a glass jewel box with bold curves, the building addition embraces the whimsical nature of the existing structure and houses the new warm-water therapy pool. A separate, smaller addition houses pool mechanical equipment.

In addition, a complete renovation of the existing indoor lap pool increased total lap swimming lanes from six to eight, added a diving board and improved cosmetic interior finishes. HVAC equipment was also updated throughout the renovation area with new pool dehumidification units and ductwork distribution systems.

A new outdoor pool accessed from the indoor aquatics center adds an outdoor recreation component for use during summer months. Recreational aquatics opportunities are now greatly improved and have been embraced by the community with overflow crowds.
