The Lilly Center at DePauw University was expanded and renovated as the first of a three-phase process to address the university’s top priorities related to fitness, training facilities and recreational programming — all while targeting and ultimately achieving LEED Gold certification. In particular, a lobby was added to the front of the existing building to align it with the walkway and create a prominent campus front. The renovation also included an expanded 16,000-square-foot fitness center, which triples the size of the previous facility and better accommodates students, student-athletes and members of the community.

The expansion adds three new multipurpose rooms to support fitness, group cycling and dance — tripling the space previously available. The extra rooms were constructed in the space vacated by the previous fitness center. Remodeled recreational locker rooms and administrative office space were added, as well.

The roof of the Erdmann natatorium was replaced and raised, enabling the existing natatorium to be converted into a practice gymnasium as part of phase-three improvements. The construction of a new 50-meter pool will follow. Meanwhile, the Department of Kinesiology has taken over several seldom-used racquetball courts, more than doubling the office and laboratory space for the growing department.
