The Quinte Sports & Wellness Centre is a new multiuse recreation center attached to the existing Quinte Sports Centre. The addition includes two ice arenas, an aquatics facility, gymnasium, fitness center, workout studios, running track, multi-use community space, senior center, retail space and administration offices.

All facilities are grouped around a main two-story atrium, or “pedestrian spine.” The atrium is the primary circulation route and the principal organizing feature of the building, connecting the new structure with the existing facility.

A second-floor café-lounge, strategically located above the main entrance, creates a distinct architectural feature. Due to its layout and location, the cafe becomes a truly multipurpose space and the main social hub, linking together functionally diverse facilities and projecting a welcoming gesture.

Contributing to the center’s emphasis on sustainability, an open-concept design and large windows and glass viewing areas allow the sun to naturally light a large portion of the center throughout the entire day. Photovoltaic panels on the roof generate solar energy, while 98 percent of waste heat from the refrigeration plant is captured and reused to heat other areas of the building.
