The design team worked with The Lovett School to transform its athletic experience by addressing the shortage of athletic facilities for physical education, practice and competition, as well as a locker facility shortage, with the addition of three vast improvements, one of which being the new Murray Athletic Center (MAC).

The MAC meets the expanding athletic program’s needs with four new student-athlete and faculty locker rooms that include 240 lockers and a 9,000-square-foot strength training space. A two-story lobby features a monumental stair that connects the three levels, and glass walls are interwoven throughout the MAC to maximize a sense of connectivity.

Adjacent to the MAC is Railey Field, a new synthetic turf field that accommodates football, as well as men’s and women’s soccer and lacrosse. The street in front of the MAC was renovated to create the Lion Walk between the football stadium and the MAC. This pathway provides a social gathering space during sporting events. The new plaza in the center of the athletic and physical education precinct has the capability of being closed off to potential traffic to provide a safe, enjoyable atmosphere on gamedays.
