The new Grand Park Events Center was designed with sports tourism in mind and includes three full-size athletic fields capable of hosting high-level competition. To accommodate professional sporting events, special attention was paid to roof height and clearance between playing fields and exterior walls. The structure has 285-foot clear spans and an interior height of 74 feet.

With more than a million visitors per year, sustainability of the Grand Park sports campus is dependent upon ease of maintenance. Supporting the sustainability effort, brick-colored concrete block was used in the main corridor along with a polished concrete floor. These materials do not require separate wall protection, repainting or heavy annual cleaning. Additionally, in lieu of installing a skylight, which requires a high level of maintenance, semi-transparent metal panels were used to increase natural light.

For program adaptability and energy efficiency, the arena is equipped with LED lighting — each individual fixture monitored and controllable — allowing the user to isolate light to the areas in play. The exterior is composed of metal panels, with some stone panels to match surrounding building materials. The metal panels and pre-engineered structural system provided good constructability, cost-effective aesthetic value and durability.
