Mirabelli Community Center

Las Vegas, NV
Construction Cost: $6.8 million
Area / Square Feet: 32,000
Occupancy Date: February 2006

The long, narrow and curved site of the Mirabelli Community Center dictated an efficient linear arrangement of spaces within the facility. Because it is located in an established residential area, the building is a commensurate single-story structure. Activity areas are arranged on each side of a central hallway illuminated with a series of skylights. The main lobby is located on one end, with a secondary entrance on the opposite end, and an angled reception desk allows for supervisory views into all rooms along the central hallway. Larger and higher spaces, such as the gymnasium and gymnastics rooms, were strategically placed on opposite ends of the building, further breaking up a potentially large mass.

Soft earth tones used for building materials, wall colors and accents recall a vacation lodge, and a combination of natural and indirect lighting highlights the rich, deep colors while reducing energy costs.

Existing palm trees were saved and replanted around the new center.
