The Park City Ice Arena and Sports Field Complex was designed with three goals in mind. The first was to create a fully functional ice sheet to accommodate a wide variety of programs, from figure skating to hockey games, while also including ample spectator seating. The second was to create a facility that also could be used during the summer as a regional complex that includes fields for soccer, baseball, softball and other sports. The final objective was to create an environmentally sensitive building that straddles existing wetlands protected with native plants and integrates into the mountainous site.

The ice arena includes a large lobby, seating for 350 spectators, team locker rooms, party rooms, a rental and pro shop and administrative areas. Clerestory windows introduce natural light into the seating areas while still maintaining a glare-free ice surface.

Located at a mountain base in a world-renowned ski resort town, the publicly owned building adheres to strict setbacks and height limitations, as well as the required use of natural materials. The design team and facility owner worked closely with the Army Corps of Engineers to minimize the development impact on existing wetlands while incorporating that natural feature as a site amenity.
