Eagle Grove Family Aquatic Center

Eagle Grove, IA
Construction Cost: $3.3 million
Area / Square Feet: 1.3 acres
Occupancy Date: May 2007

Because of the site’s room for growth, the city of Eagle Grove determined to have the aquatic center constructed at the same park site as the aging and failing pool it replaced. That caused engineering and design challenges, with poor soils and extensive renovation required of remnants from the old pool and an existing concrete tank.

The 2,640-square-foot bathhouse is a banded split-face masonry building, and the mechanical building houses a full-service air-conditioned concessions area that serves both inside and outside patrons. Both buildings feature purple standing-seam metal roofs that tie in with the bright yellow and purple colors of the nearby high school, and six large, permanent purple-and-yellow umbrellas shade the pool deck and concessions area.

The new pool has a surface area of 8,288 square feet, with a bather capacity of 459. It boasts a large zero-depth-entry pool area with an interactive spray feature, a small eagle slide, and a large aqua-deck with slides and various sprays and toys. Also included is a 25-meter, fi ve-lane lap pool; a 1-meter diving board; a shaded drop slide; and a large shaded stair tower that services both a 280-foot fl ume slide and a 70-foot speed slide.
