The GlenRiddle Clubhouse, located at the entrance of the GlenRiddle residential community in Berlin, Md., overlooks the picturesque 14th hole and lake at the Man O’War golf course. The building provides a number of amenities, including a sports lounge and coffee bar, a multipurpose room and art studio, a billiards room, a fitness center, and locker rooms with sauna and whirlpool facilities.

Situated on land that once was home to the famous racehorse Man O’War in the 1920s, the clubhouse recalls the original architecture of the GlenRiddle Farm buildings. The cupolas and dormers, especially, have precedence in the farm’s outbuildings and barns. This agrarian vocabulary carries through to the interior, where exposed beams add character to the facility.

The building’s layout provides entry access into the main corridor, which acts as a circulation spine to connect all program elements. This connector, anchored at both ends by tower elements, is gently curved and accented with banks of north-facing windows and banquette seating areas. The fi tness center anchors the east end of the clubhouse. This facility is a highly visible focal point of the community, and has become a local landmark.
