Five cities and the local school district came together to create the South Davis Recreation District for the purpose of financing, building and operating a state-of-the-art recreation facility. The resulting South Davis Recreation Center, the largest facility of its kind in Utah, offers a multitude of state-of-the-art recreation amenities including indoor and outdoor swimming pools; an ice rink; three gymnasiums; a competition pool with spectator seating; racquetball/wallyball courts; weight training and aerobic exercise rooms; a steam room; locker facilities; an indoor walking/jogging track; a bouldering cave; a catering kitchen; and administrative offices and classroom space.

The building’s exterior reflects the shapes of its mountain backdrop. This rhythm is repeated throughout the facility, in the views of the Wasatch Range from the ice rink and running track, as well as the soaring angles and lines of the building itself. Functional versatility is afforded by the multipurpose activity court (which accommodates basketball, inline hockey, and indoor football and soccer) and bouldering wall (which safely accommodates users of all ages without the need for trained staff).
