Since its construction in the early 1900s, Wilson Field has been a centerpiece of Washington and Lee University’s athletics program. Recently completed renovations to the distinguished venue introduced a new synthetic turf field and modern stadium with a fully equipped press box and a range of player and spectator amenities.

The renovation added a home grandstand with 3,500 seats, visitor seating for 500, an informal seating berm and a state-of-the-art press box featuring media facilities, coaching facilities and a VIP suite. Other components include concessions areas, restrooms and team support spaces.

The design of the upper concourse expanded the accessible seating deck to create a large assembly space with views of the main campus. The press box forms a gateway linking the upper concourse to the large entry/spectator plaza to the west, creating cohesive but very distinct exterior spaces.

The existing team support building was located under the original grandstands. An innovative steel truss was designed to limit the number of columns needed to support the new grandstand, thereby reducing their impact on the usable space within the facility.

The new stadium complex reinterprets the rich architectural language of the neoclassical brick campus, forming a stylistic link as the campus expands northward.
