The newest Washington Sports Club graces the up-and-coming urban neighborhood of Columbia Heights. This was a highly anticipated addition to Columbia Heights (the designer’s 10th completed WSC in the D.C. area), and had the highest number of pre-opening membership sales in the history of the company.

The goal of the design was to create a health club that acts like a town center, with an open, inviting fitness area surrounded by core program spaces. The club, situated three levels above the street, consists of fitness space, a four-lane lap pool, a basketball court and three separate studios for group exercise, cycling and mind/body exercise. It also includes spacious locker rooms with an adjacent sauna. Family-oriented spaces include a “Sports Club for Kids,” a party room, a childcare area and a family changing room.

Large expanses of glass allow views from one area to another, while the reception space has the feel of a hip gathering place, as opposed to just another gym. An added bonus of the Columbia Heights location is the impressive cityscape view.
