The opening of the Titan Student Recreation Center has dramatically enhanced student life on California State University’s Fullerton campus. The facility has become a much-needed social hub for student interaction and activity at this primarily commuter institution.

From the project’s inception in 2001, the focus was on building a green facility. The use of renewable and sustainable building materials, plus low-flow plumbing fixtures, were a few of the items incorporated into the center’s design. Students, staff, designers and contractors worked as a team to achieve that goal, resulting in the facility being awarded LEED Gold certification — the first student recreation center in California to achieve that designation.

The CSU Fullerton campus is organized around a series of landscape quadrangles linked by pedestrian walks, and the Titan Student Recreation Center is the iconic building on the Activity Quad. Its distinct roof shape allows natural light to penetrate deep into various activity areas, and the two-story lobby provides physical and visual access to all major spaces. The facility also includes a three-court gymnasium, an indoor running track, climbing and bouldering walls, fitness and multipurpose studios, racquetball courts and an outdoor leisure pool.
