The Dixon Athletic Center supports the Episcopal Academy’s new 1,200-student campus and its commitment to providing competitive athletic programs and a broad range of activities for students from pre-kindergarten through grade 12.

The exterior uses economical, durable and sustainable materials that include concrete masonry units, cementitious board, batten siding and a standing-seam metal roof.

The interior organization of the building was designed to engage student participation and celebrate every student-athlete equally. The entry lobby offers direct views of the primary spectator spaces, including the two-story natatorium and the competition gym. The clerestory daylit central spine offers similar views into the pool area and fitness center while leading student-athletes to the lockers, training room, rowing tank and field house. Other amenities include a 10-court squash pavilion and team training rooms.

The facility makes the most of a narrow and hilly site, and is nestled into the hillside to create a low profile appropriate to the scale of adjacent buildings.
