Overland Park Soccer Complex
Overland Park Soccer ComplexOverland Park, Kan.
Used for tournaments and recreational play, this 12-field complex drew more than 150,000 players and 425,000 spectators during an abbreviated 2009 and the full 2010 season, representing an estimated $8 million boost for the Overland Park community. Each of the synthetic turf fields is marked with temporary striping, allowing for the configuration of as many as 48 fields simultaneously. The complex features sports lighting for all fields, a field house, a field cooling system, concessions areas and restroom buildings, parking and thematic signage. The championship field has seating for 500 fans.
The 16,000-square-foot field house — which houses numerous offices, lounges, locker rooms, meeting rooms and a first-aid suite — and the adjacent pedestrian plaza provide the main gathering hub during tournament check-in and awards ceremonies. Daylighting from the multi-story curtainwall energizes the field house entry. Clad with durable shimmering zinc panels and a fiber cement board rain-screen system, the field house is a popular space for community meetings and banquets.
The complex includes 1.2 million square feet of synthetic turf, representing the largest soccer-specific installation of its kind in the United States, while shade structures and playgrounds cater to the entire family.
