Roosevelt Pool Renovation and Addition
Roosevelt Pool Renovation and AdditionGlenview, IL
The renovation of Roosevelt Pool transformed a Depression-era public pool into a 21st century aquatic facility that retains its heritage while providing new opportunities for the Glenview Park District community.
The original Roosevelt Pool featured a sand deck, potted plants and a lighting system now considered archaic and outdated. Today, the new 1,500-bathercapacity aquatic center features a 13,000-square-foot, zero-depth-entry activity pool, a 3,000-square-foot lap pool, a 1,000-square-foot diving pool and a “feature island” with a diving platform and two drop slides. Additional amenities include various water-play features, a raised terrace and shade elements.
Recognized by the Illinois Park & Recreation Association with an Outstanding Facility and Park Award in 2005, the renovated aquatic center also features an updated and expanded bathhouse and a new 1,500-square-foot concessions/filter building.
Aquatic center improvements were achieved within the constraints of a compact site in an established neighborhood park containing tennis courts and baseball fields. To address the existing bathhouse’s location eight feet above the pool deck, two curved, ADA-accessible ramps were installed, which not only fit neatly into the landscape, but also visually echo the circular pool shape.
