Bogan Park Community Center & Gymnasium Expansion

Buford, GA
Construction Cost: $2 million
Area / Square Feet: 22,000
Occupancy Date: October 2004

The goal for this project was to expand program offerings of an existing aquatic and community center that was completed in 1997. The facility?s expansion continues along an existing circulation spine that links the aquatic and community centers, terminating in a lobby space built to accommodate large gymnasium crowds. A bold, red accent wall acts as a backdrop for community artwork and serves as the lobby?s focal point. Architectural concrete block used on the exterior continues inside to provide durability and strengthen the connection between inside and out. Large amounts of glass brighten the area.

The gymnasium is designed to accommodate basketball players of all ages with a regulation high school court and two shorter cross-courts. The wood floor is also striped for volleyball and shuffleboard and can be covered to provide a large meeting space. The aerobics/dance studio, with its performance wood floor, mirrors and ballet barre, provides space for a variety of physical activities — including martial arts and fencing. The multipurpose classroom is designed to serve as a staging area for teams during basketball tournaments.
